"Luminous" will be an open-prompt zine which assigns contributors to a different subgenre of fantasy based on their interests, strengths, and creative inclinations.There are 4 sections, each of which will focus on different elements and stories that can be told within the wider genre of fantasy. This not only showcases the incredible talent and creativity of its contributors but also offers readers a chance to explore the full spectrum of fantasy storytelling. Below is a description of each section.

Arcana

High Fantasy

Arcana will explore the subgenre of high fantasy, which revolves around fictional, secondary worlds with their own unique cultures, magic, mythical creatures, and in depth worldbuilding. This genre often involves epic tales, grand adventures, and battles between good and evil forces. The options are limitless, from elves and fae, to dwarves and dragons, and even seafaring pirates traversing the dangerous waters of merfolk.

Grimoire

Dark Fantasy

Grimoire will delve into the depths of dark fantasy, a subgenre of fantasy that combines elements of fantasy with horror or gothic themes. These stories often explore grim, eerie, and macabre settings and usually feature morally grey characters, supernatural creatures, and more gritty or violent stories. Vampires, ghosts, demons, witches, warlocks, and eldritch horrors lurk here.

Acropolis

Urban Fantasy

Acropolis will take us on a journey through urban fantasy. This is a subgenre that is set in contemporary or realistic urban settings but incorporates elements of magic, the supernatural, or mythical creatures into the everyday world. This can be a modern city with secret societies of magic users, historical cities with vampires living in the shadows, or even steampunk settings with flying ships and automatons.
